Blissful Shelley

The sweetest bit of serenity there is

Last week I had some skin testing for allergies.  The first thing I had a reaction to was dust mites, and it was itchier (is that a word?  lol) than the control they used to indicate a positive reaction!  They still itch once in a while… this might partially explain the recurrent sinus infections I’ve been having lately.  I also found out that I’m allergic to mountain ceder.  I already knew that, but now I have the official test to prove it.  The last thing I had a reaction to is mesquite… that’s a new one.

My right hip has been hurting for months.  It started out as a pain on the outside of my hip, and would come and go.  Now it is a constant ache.  I went to an ortho specialist yesterday and he said I might have torn the labral cartilage.  I had to go home and look that up.  haha

I am going for an MRI next Tuesday, then I get to wait another week to see yet another specialist for him to tell me what the results are.

Quick update

  • My 18 yr old son moved out a couple weeks ago. He is living with my ex husband and neither of them have a job.
  • My husband has to work midnight to 8 am starting tomorrow night… for about a month.
  • I got a raise at work!!
  • I have joined a charity group called Angels for Hope and sent out my first one yesterday.

Happy Friday!

Yesterday I had a heavy nosebleed that lasted at least a half hour, just before it was time for me to leave work.  Then I had a GYN appointment… what fun!  This afternoon I get to go have “the girls” smashed for a mammogram.

This morning while I was driving to work, I was so deep in thought, that I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.  I drove right on by the street where I usually turn, and several blocks more before I realized what I was doing.  LOL  Luckily there is more than one way to get to work, so I just took an alternate route this morning.  Sheesh!

Tonight is the Christmas party for Tim’s work.  The menu sounds delicious, and it is always interesting to see/meet people that he works with.

Feeling Crafty

My first attempt at a crocheted hat.

My first attempt at a crocheted hat.

I’ve been trying to rest most of the weekend, since the last week has been filled with coughing fits due to my bronchitis.  I found some you tube videos on how to crochet, and learned that I had been doing it wrong all these years!  I am self taught, and I was doing it left handed.  I learned yesterday that I can crochet right handed just as easily.  Sooo, I have become addicted to this blog “The Art of Crochet – Teresa”.  Her videos are amazing!  Anyway, I made a hat this weekend…. though my tension is way too tight so it won’t fit the intended recipient.  It DOES fit me, though!  LOL

3rd Times the charm

So, I’ve been passed up twice for getting hired as a full time, permanent employee at work. I’ve been working for 5 months at a job where I was hired as a temp for 8 weeks. The other person in the Tier 1 service desk here has decided it is time to move on. That leaves me…. just lil old me… here to handle all the IT needs of two floors in two different buildings. Sounds easy right? ha! Not only that, but we also handle email requests from offices in CA, VA, PA, and GA.

So, the this is the third time they have a reason to hire me full time. Will it happen? Time will tell.

Anniversary

Last Sunday, September 6th was our first Wedding anniversary. It made for a great weekend! We went to Church in the morning and got lots of “congratulations” after our Pastor announced it. Then we went to lunch at Red Lobster. The food there was delicious! We exchanged gifts too. I tried to go traditional since this is my first truly happy marriage. I found a website that prints poems, along with your names and anniversary date. It is matted and framed, and has a place to place your wedding picture. I really love it, and I hope Tim does too.

He got me a digital picture frame that holds oodles and oodles of photos! We haven’t had time to load it yet, but I did put a few pictures on it. I have it sitting on my desk at home, next to my computer. I kind of want to bring it to work so his smiling face can brighten my day when he isn’t here, but I also want to leave it at home so that he can enjoy it too. What a dilemma!

I love you soooo much, Tim. I thank God every day for bringing you into my life.

Long live long weekends

I’m back at work after a 3 day weekend for Labor Day. I didn’t get paid for being off yesterday (Monday), but it was still nice to have the day off. I drank way too much at a neighbors party on Saturday. Tim was there for me though, and made me switch to water after a while. Then we went for a walk around the lake, I’m sure I was quite the sight to see, since I couldn’t walk in a straight line! When we got home, me made me eat some honey. They say the fructose in honey helps your body burn the alcohol off faster. About 15 minutes later I was no longer slurring my speech. The best part is that I didn’t have a hangover Sunday morning!

Updates

I was hired in April, for the remaining 8 weeks of a contract, doing technical support for a medical management company. When I started, there was one “permanent” employee, and one other contractor. FOUR months later, I am still here. The other contractor left back in July (i think). They then hired a second “permanent” person to fill a position that I applied and interviewed for, but didn’t get. Two weeks later he quit. I’m still here!!! I thought maybe I’d get hired this time around, since the position was again open. Nope. They put a freeze on all IT positions. Oh, they are also spending tons of money creating new teams, ordering new computers for all the new people on the teams, and getting them all set up…but they can’t hire ONE measley IT person. Whatever. The “permanent” employee that was here when I got here, will most likely be putting in her 2 week notice soon. That leaves me…. STILL a temp…and STILL here. I wonder what they’ll do?

It is NOT Tuesday!

With Monday being a holiday, I’ve been thinking today is Tuesday, silly me!  On Monday, we went to the dollar movie theater (where it costs $1.50) and watched “Knowing” with Nicholas Cage.  It was pretty good, and you can’t really beat the price, compared to the $9 regular theaters charge for admission.  After the movie we went home and grilled some ground turkey burgers.  They came out really yummy, and so did the baked sweet potato fries that Tim made!

It is 6:09 pm and I’m sitting at work, waiting out the last 20 minutes of my day.  I really don’t like this shift, but I have to work it at least once a week.  We rotate shifts every day… I like either the 6-3 shift, or the 7:30-4:30 shift.

My clothes smell like cigarette smoke, yuck!  Thats what I get for taking a break from securing computer cords with bundle ties and going to the smoking area with my co-worker.  I can’t stand the smell of cigarette smoke now, but we were at the building across the street and I didn’t have anything else to do during the break.  It makes me want to go home and shower!

Almost Friday

Today has been crazy busy at work, but at least the time has passed fairly quickly. I’m working the 9:30 am to 6:30 pm shift today and tomorrow. Tonight when I get off work, I have to go straight to Church to stream the service for shut-ins that cannot leave home. It was nice to be able to sleep in this morning. Plus I had time to TTapp before work… which is good since I won’t feel like it later.

DH has a gig tonight, they are putting on a free, private concert for the wounded soldiers from overseas. I miss him when he’s gone in the evenings, but I’m so glad that he gets to enjoy himself and get paid for something he loves.
